Platinised Titanium or Niobium Rod Anode for Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (CP)

March 19, 2020 at 5:32 PMPlatinised

Platinised Titanium or Niobium Probe / cantilever Anodes are designed for physically harsh environments where protective current is required. This anode provides superior endurance in condenser water boxes, large diameter piping, and storage tank , process vessels, Heat exchangers, Pipes and Heater box internal etc…

Tiaano platinised titanium anodes are available in a wide range of sizes, shapes and types to suit the majority of marine and onshore applications, and are specially designed and manufactured for each project to ensure suitable output and life characteristics. During operation of a platinised titanium anode, the platinum is consumed. The actual consumption rate of the platinum is dependent on many factors, including the nature of the electrolyte and the current density at which the anode is operating. To permit flexibility of anode design, the platinum coating can be electro deposited onto the titanium at different thicknesses during manufacture. The most common thicknesses being 2.5 microns, 5 microns and 7.5 microns, although thicker plating can be provided for particularly severe applications.

Tiaano manufacturing and supplying platinised titanium or Niobium anodes with complete assemblies and cable tails, and mounting arrangements. These assemblies incorporate elements in rod, tube and sheet form.

Buried Structures; Below and Above Ground Tanks

Marine Structures, Well Casings, Pilings, Piers & Jetties

Vessels, Tanks, Heat exchangers, Pipes.

Parking Garages, Columns, Balconies, Historical Structures.

Above ground storage tanks base, Steel rebar in concrete,

Liner flex for inplant pipework.

Advantage of platinized titanium anode in ICCP Application:-

• Effective, environment-friendly

• High current efficiency

Platinised Titanium Rod Anode for Cantilever and Probe Anode assembly in Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP)

March 2, 2020 at 7:28 AMPlatinised

Platinized Titanium and Niobium probe / cantilever type anodes are also available for use in Internal ICCP of process vessels such as pipes, condenser water boxes and heat exchangers where the interior is difficult to access and its space limited. Such anodes are often mounted through the vessel shell, with the anode part of the probe extending into the vessel, and wire connections made to the probe on the exterior of the vessel.

Tiaano offer Platinised Titanium and Niobium cantilever (probe) anodes for this application (medium seawater, fresh water and brackish water) Also Tiaano offer platinized Rods and Tubes suitable for cantilevers (probes).

The primary use of platinized titanium anodes is in the field of Cathodic Protection. The anodes are used in structures buried in soil and the steel exposed to marine environments such as oil and gas producing platforms, ships, oil well casings and jetties.

Combining Platinum and Titanium / Niobium for Outstanding Corrosion Prevention:-

Platinized Titanium Anodes synergistically combine the favorable electrochemical features of platinum (Pt) with the corrosion resistance and other characteristics of titanium. They are anodes normally produced by the electrochemical deposition of a very thin layer of platinum metal onto a titanium substrate. These anodes operate as inert anodes with high durability and are preferred because they remain insoluble in common electrolytes.

Platinum Plated Titanium Anodes for Research and Development

March 2, 2020 at 6:21 AMPlatinised

Tiaano offer Platinum plated Anode and cathodes (Electrodes) for various research and developments. Many article provides a history of platinised anodes by reviewing innovations in the chlor-alkali industry, electroplating, electro galvanizing, electro winning etc.... These anodes are attractive for numerous reasons (e.g., long life and educed energy consumption), but they must still overcome the hurdle of cost to gain wider acceptance for applications in the various process industries.

Chemical Behavior of Platinum and Titanium:-

Platinum is preferred on an anode's outer surface because it is highly resistant to corrosion and can ensure current flow in most electrolyte media without leading to the formation of an insulating layer on itself. Because it doesn’t corrode, it doesn’t produce corrosion products and hence the consumption rate is very low.

Platinum is inert in fused salts and acids, whereas it is dissolved in aqua regia. There is no risk of hydrogen embrittlement. It is one of the few rare metals that perfectly resist chlorides of seawater.

Titanium shows reasonably good resistance to a marine environment (seawater in particular). It does not react with concentrated (80%) solutions of metallic chlorides. However, it is susceptible to attack by hydrofluoric acid (HF) and hot hydrochloric acid (HCl) of higher concentrations. Even hydrogen peroxide and hot nitric acid can attack titanium. Oxidizing agents normally do not attack titanium because it readily forms a protective oxide coating. However, non-oxidizing substances such as sulfuric acid (above 5% concentration) and phosphoric acid (above 30%) can attack titanium. From a hydrogen embrittlement point of view, titanium fares better than tantalum as an anode material.

Advantages of Platinized Titanium Anodes:-

Platinum has the advantages of electro chemical inertness, mechanical strength, workability and favorable electrical conductivity. However, it is prohibitively expensive. Development of platinum on titanium and platinum on tantalum (plated) materials has opened up the feasibility of using these for anode materials for Electro Plating, metal finishing and cathodic protection systems in critical applications.

FRP Insulated Platinised Titanium Strip Anode for Cathodic Protection (ICCP)

February 14, 2020 at 9:08 AMPlatinised

Tiaano manufacture and supplier of FRP insulated Platinised Titanium Strip Anodes for ship hull protection. Effective cathodic protection guarantees corrosion free existence. Providing the structure is maintained at a potential of –0.8 volts, no loss of metal will occur at all during the life of the structure.

How does corrosion take place in ships?

Ships are made of steel; whose main component is iron. Iron is an electrochemically positive element, i.e., it has a tendency to give up electrons to become a free ion. Sea water is composed of oxygen and hydrogen, and it produces electrochemically negative hydroxyl ions which can accept the electrons given by Iron. This way the Iron ions combine with the hydroxyl ions of water to form Iron Hydroxide. This is called the oxidization of Iron, and this oxide is what we call as the brown color rust.

Cathodic protection is a mechanism which is employed to protect the ship’s surface from corrosion.

Advantage of our Platinised Titanium Anode - Ship Hull Protection:-

• Increased life of rudders, shafts, struts and propellers as well as other underwater

• Anodes are light, sturdy and compact for easy shipping, storage and installation

• Automatic control equipment ensures reliable, simple operation

• Only one installation required for the life of the vessel or structure

• Increased dry-dock interval
