By combining platinum and titanium, dimensional stability is possible. Both metals offer optimal parameters for Electro plating. Platinum has a very low specific electrical resistance. Titanium’s corrosion resistance is outstanding. The breakdown voltage for titanium in electrolytes containing chloride, for example, is between 10 and 15 V, depending on the pH value. This is significantly higher with niobium (35 to 50 V) and tantalum (70 to 100 V).

Titanium does have disadvantages when it comes to corrosion resistance in strong acids, such as sulphuric, nitric, hydrofluoric, oxalic and methane sulphonic acids. However, titanium is still a good option because of its mechanical workability and price.

Platinum is a noble metal hence we used platinum as an anode in electrolysis process. Platinum is used in electrochemical cells because it is resistant to oxidation- it will not easily react, which makes in excellent as an electrode. Platinized anodes can be operated at very high current densities. 100 Amperes per square foot are typical. All of the current flows from the platinum coated portion of the anode surface. However, if this coating is damaged, current may also flow from the substrate material resulting in its premature failure. The primary limitation of platinized anodes is that the oxide film on the substrate can break down if excessive anode-to-electrolyte voltages are encountered. The practical limit for platinized titanium is 12 volts. Platinized niobium can be used at potentials as high as 100 volts.

Platinum Plated titanium anodes have been applied widely to Electro Plating, hard chrome plating, electro winning, electro forming application and for chlorine production in chlor-alkali industry. The anodic stability and service life are the main concerns in these applications.

This Platinised Titanium anode is designed for use the Electroplating Unit. The anode is made from platinised titanium mesh, with a titanium handle which will hook onto the sheets for electroplating tanks. Platinum Plated Titanium Cylindrical Mesh Anode for Electrolysis

Platinum Plated titanium insoluble anodes are based on titanium metal as anodes in the form of mesh, plates, rods, and tubes. The thickness of the standard platinum layer is 2-5µm. Under higher requirements, the thickness of the platinum layer can reach 20µm. The service life of the platinum plated titanium anode depends on the working medium (electrolyte) and the current strength (current density) of the anode. The current density should not exceed 75A / dm2. According to experience, the wear of the platinum layer is about 1-4 grams per million amp-hours in a fluorine-free chromium plating solution. When the current density is higher than 75A / dm2 or using a fluorine-containing electrolyte.

Features of Platinum Plating:-

Application of the platinum layer on the titanium base substrate is best carried out electrochemically in molten salt via high-temperature electrolysis. The anodes that were platinum-plated using the HTE process are clearly superior to those coated in aqueous electrolytes. The purity of the molten salt platinum coating is at least 99.9 percent and therefore significantly higher than the purity of platinum layers deposited from aqueous solutions. Ductility, adhesion and corrosion resistance are significantly improved and inner tensions are minimal.

Platinum Plated Titanium Tube Anode for Hard Chrome Plating

Tiaano Platinised Titanium anodes using high-temperature electrolysis. In this process, platinum is deposited onto base materials such as titanium, niobium, tantalum, Zirconium and stainless steels. Platinised Titanium Anodes or Platinised Niobium Anodes (Dimensionally stable anodes) are an interesting alternative for hard chrome plating. Platinum-plated anodes offer many benefits in hard chrome plating.

Benefits of Platinum Anodes in Hard Chrome plating:-

v  Processes with dimensionally stable anodes are almost completely free of lead and therefore considerably more environmentally friendly.

v  Production downtime and exchanges are not required, as with lead systems.

v  Platinized Titanium and Platinized Niobium anodes normally do not change their shape within the usual three-year period of use.

v  The layer thicknesses on the cathodic components are even. Mechanical reworking is unnecessary.

v  The amount of energy required is considerably lower than with lead anodes. In the long term, the voltage difference means significantly lower costs.

v  The reason for this is the anodic oxygen surge, which is much higher with lead than with platinum.

v  Components such as power supply carriers and frame structures made from CuTi can be reused several times. This means that the time taken for the method to pay off is drastically lower when compared with lead anodes.

v  Leftover platinum recovered at the end of the re-coating means that some original precious metal costs are recovered.

 The result: no lead chromate, fewer health risks for workers and no disposal costs.
